Terms of Service

The rules of the road for using Handy Hank. Plain language, no traps.

Who you are dealing with

Handy Hank is a trade name of Quantum Leap Marketing, a sole proprietorship registered in Quebec under NEQ 2272463334. In these terms, "Handy Hank", "we", "us" and "our" mean Quantum Leap Marketing operating as Handy Hank. "You" means the person using this site.

You can reach us any time at info@handyhank.ca. Our mailing address is 1634 rue Godin, Longueuil, Quebec J4T 1T2.

By using this site or submitting a request through it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

02

What Handy Hank actually is

Handy Hank is a matching service. You tell us what you need done, where you are, and when you need it. We pass your project to one vetted contractor who works in your area and does that kind of work, and that contractor contacts you directly to discuss the job.

Handy Hank is not a contractor. We do not perform work, quote work, supervise work, employ tradespeople, hold trade licences, or act as a general contractor. We are not a party to any agreement you sign with a contractor, and we take no commission on the work you have done.

03

What we check, and what that check means

Before a contractor is allowed to receive requests, we verify their business registration, their trade licensing where the trade requires it, that they carry at least $2 million in commercial general liability insurance, and their workers' compensation coverage. Our vetting standard is published at handyhank.ca/how-we-vet.

Vetting is a screening step, not a warranty. We do not guarantee the quality, timeliness, safety, price or outcome of any work a contractor performs. We do not guarantee that a contractor's coverage remains in force after we check it. The agreement for the work is between you and the contractor, and you should get it in writing.

04

What you agree to when you submit a request

You agree that the information you give us is accurate, that the phone number and email address you provide are yours, and that you are the owner, landlord or manager of the property in question, or are authorized by them to request work on it.

You agree that we may pass your name, contact details and project details to one contractor so they can respond to your request. That is the entire point of the service and it is what you are asking us to do when you submit the form.

Submitting a request does not obligate you to hire anyone, and it does not obligate any contractor to take the job.

05

Text message program

Program name: Handy Hank Job Request Updates. Sender: Handy Hank, a trade name of Quantum Leap Marketing, NEQ 2272463334.

By checking the text message box on our request form and providing your mobile number, you agree to receive text messages from Handy Hank about the job request you submitted. These are transactional messages only: confirmation that we received your request, notification of which contractor was matched to you, and follow-up about that specific request. We do not send promotional or marketing text messages under this program.

Message frequency varies and depends on the status of your request. Typically you will receive between one and four messages per request.

Message and data rates may apply.

Consent to receive text messages is optional. It is not a condition of using this site, of submitting a request, or of being matched with a contractor. You can complete the form and get matched without agreeing to texts.

Reply STOP at any time to cancel. You will receive one confirmation message and then no further messages. Reply HELP for help, or email info@handyhank.ca. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

The contractor we match you with contacts you separately, by phone or email, using the contact details you provided so they can respond to your request. The contractor is not part of the Handy Hank text message program and does not receive your text messaging consent. Your text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party.

Participation in this program is subject to our Privacy Policy and these Terms of Service.

06

Email

If you submit a request, we email you a confirmation and details of the contractor matched to you. Those are service messages tied to your request.

If you separately opt in to our homeowner newsletter, we send occasional guides, rebate updates and seasonal maintenance reminders. Every one of those emails carries an unsubscribe link that works, and unsubscribing takes effect promptly. Unsubscribing from the newsletter does not affect messages about an active request.

07

Using the site

Do not submit requests you have no intention of following through on. Do not submit someone else's contact information. Do not scrape, copy or republish our content, our guides or our contractor information. Do not attempt to interfere with the site or access parts of it you were not given access to.

We may refuse or remove any request, and may decline to match you, at our discretion.

08

Our content

The guides, articles, pricing ranges and checklists on this site are general information for Canadian homeowners. They are not a quote, an estimate, an inspection, or professional advice about your specific property. Prices vary by region, season, access and scope. Always get a written quote from a licensed contractor before making a decision.

09

Limits on our liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Handy Hank is not liable for any loss, damage, injury, cost or dispute arising out of work performed or not performed by a contractor, out of your dealings with a contractor, or out of your reliance on general information published on this site.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to one hundred Canadian dollars.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under applicable consumer protection legislation that cannot be waived.

10
